The specialized abilities of the staff are vital, invaluable to the operations of OSIS. From Helpdesk personnel to Sr. Network Engineers, all are committed to offer full-service, high quality computing capabilities to our customers at the lowest cost possible. At OSIS, teams of technicians are certified in a variety of industry standard Information Technology (IT) programs, such as Microsoft, Citrix, Cisco, Comptia and others. In the healthcare field, as well as IT, technological changes and advances are constant and our IT staff participates in classroom training and hands-on experience to bring our clients the best options for their specialized needs.

Ohio Shared Information Services provides support for over 820 individual user Active Directory accounts with various abilities to access more than 70 different applications on its network including:

  • Medical Manager (MM) Scheduling, Reporting and Billing Software
  • There are a total of 603 Medical Manager users across 9 datasets
  • Most users connect to an IBM AIX server using thin clients though some connect via Personal Computers, using Medical Manager Client; special access software
  • There is an additional MM dataset running on a SCO Unix server
  • Microsoft Office Applications, including Outlook email, Word processing abilities, Excel spreadsheets, Access database and Project planning software
  • 425 individual Windows users have access to email through our Exchange 2000 server, which is prescreened with anti-spam and anti-virus software processes
  • All windows applications are provided using a farm of Citrix MetaFrame XPa servers
  • Several Microsoft SQL 2000 servers are used for database applications

These applications currently require the maintenance of 39 servers, 5 tape backup libraries, nearly a terabyte of disk space on over 90 hard drives and over 50 Gigabytes of RAM. OSIS is moving to Dell Servers for all applications other than the IBM H80 used to run AIX and Medical Manager.

The majority of the servers that OSIS supports are located at the OSIS central office. The advantages of keeping the servers centralized at OSIS are that they are kept in a temperature controlled room, which includes 9 tons of air conditioning, secured with biometrics and security cameras that track the access of personnel in and out of the room.

All servers are monitored and maintained on a continual basis by our technical staff to sustain their optimal functions. The use of antivirus software, such as Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition 9.0, is loaded on all servers and personal computers. This is one of many applications that OSIS uses to provide security to our users and the network.
OSIS uses Lone Tar to perform a complete system backup each night. The Windows servers are also backed up nightly using a Dell Tape Library and Veritas Back-up Exec.

To prevent recurring network maintenance from interrupting everyday business, users on the OSIS network are reminded to log off appropriately.

A monthly routine maintenance shut down will be scheduled each month. As servers and other equipment are upgraded, we appreciate all users patience and understanding in remaining logged off, even remotely, during the scheduled downtime.

OSIS Virus Information... OSIS network uses the latest in anti-virus prevention data using Symantec Corporate Anti-virus software to prevent widespread difficulties with identified viruses on the entire network. Additional information on viruses can be obtained from the Symantec Website

OSIS Email Filtering... OSIS network uses GFI filters to trap spam, scam and phishing emails. This traps an average of 1000 - 2000 unwanted, and potentially harmful messages every day.
